J
osé TODARO is a tenor with a somewhat magical name,
synonymous with sunshine, brightness, warmth and light,
like Sicily, the country where he was born. But he also has
an intuitive intelligence wich enables him to size
audiences up at a glance to conquer them even better. A
true star of the stage, he has a special place in the lyric
world, he is oversensitive and possesses an undeniable
latin charm.
He has already achieved quite a successful career
appearing on stage in the most prestigious theatres and
opera houses in France. The Opera Garnier in Paris
honoured him by engaging him several times. He also
distinguished himself abroad by singing throughout the
world beside prestigious artists, who have a great estim
for him : Sylvia SASS, Ghena DIMITROVA, Montserrat
CABALLE or Kiri Te KANAWA.

He sang accompanied by worldwide famous conductors
such as Lamberto GARDELLI, Georges PRETRE, Seiji
OSAWA and Herbert Von KARAJAN. José TODARO has
more than forty operas in his repertoire : La BOHEME,
TOSCA, WERTHER, La TRAVIATA … oratorios by VERDI,
BERLIOZ, BEETHOVEN, MOZART … Classical light
operas … and operettas by Francis LOPEZ, for example "
GIPSY " and " VOLGA " which were especially composed
for him.

Deeply respectful for each work which he interprets with
an unusual emotion, and conforming to the composer's
demands, he is considered by the critics as one of the
beast lyric singers of our time.

Having created several parts in operettas which were very
popular, José TODARO ran the operetta " GIPSY "
composed by Francis LOPEZ for three successive theatre
seasons at the Châtelet in Paris, which is absolutely
exceptionnal in the history of French light operas.

José TODARO also proved to be an extemely telented T.
V. hot since the highlest levels of the Telemetropole from
Montreal entrusted him for several years with the
responsibility for a programme on Canal 10 which was
called by his own name. In this programme he sang
several of his famous successes and was awarded the
Prize for the best audience !

José TODARO took part in the celebrations of the five
hundreth anniversary of Christopher Colombus's arrival
into the America as honorary President.

Very often invited as a guest of honour, he presided at
the Yearlyy Prize Award Ceremony organized by the
Chales Oulmont Foundation in Paris.

To celebrate the European Countries Union, he recorded
" La Messa di Gloria " by PUCCINI and " L'Hymne des
Nations " de VERDI, and has become well-known for these
two works : at the moment, he is one of the few tenors
who can overcome the difficulties of these works.

For several years, José TODARO made records with CBS
and DECCA. For the 125th anniversary of the SACEM
(French Society of Music Composers), DECCA paid a
tribute to him in a record dedicated to the great
comtemporary opera singers : alongside Mario del
Monaco, Placido Domingo, Giuseppe di Stephano …
